Confirmation Project: Vocations Interview

All Year 1 Confirmation Students must complete and submit the following by March 2, 2025.

Interview a priest, religious sister, religious brother, or seminarian

1. What did you do before you became a priest, sister, brother, or seminarian?
2. When and how did you receive your call to become a priest, sister, brother, or seminarian? Did you answer this call immediately? Why did you answer the call when you did?
3. Were your family members and friends supportive of your decision?
4. What do you have to do to prepare to be a priest, sister, or brother? How long is the training/formation process?
5. What is a typical day like for you?
6. What are your hobbies and interests?
7. What have been some of your greatest joys in your vocation? What is the most challenging part of your vocation?
8. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
9. How does someone discern their vocation? What advice would you give to a young person who is considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life?
10. Who is your favorite saint or your Confirmation saint? What is this saint known for? What do you admire about this saint?

Write about your interview

• The two questions that you chose to ask outside of the ones that you were required to ask
• A summary of the person’s answers to all questions
• One thing that surprised you about the person
• One thing you learned about vocation to the priesthood or religious life
• Answers to the following:
  • Have you ever considered entering the priesthood or religious life? Why or why not? 
  • What is something you think you would like about the priesthood or religious life?
  • What is something that seems challenging about the priesthood or religious life? 
  • Are you open to God calling you to one of these vocations? Why or why not?

You may interview any of the people listed below or you may choose another person with a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. Call or email the person you would like to interview, so you can schedule a time for your interview. The person you call will likely not be able to have a full interview at the time of your initial phone call. Do not wait until the last minute to try to schedule an interview. People in religious life are very busy. Be respectful of their time. Please copy a parent on any emails to the people below. A parent must also be present during the interview.

The following are wonderful female religious orders! They are not expecting your call/email, but you are welcome to contact them if you are interested in interviewing someone in their order. Just be clear when contacting them that you are completing an assignment for your Confirmation class and were hoping to interview a sister, brother, priest, or seminarian in their religious order.
