3rd - 6th grade Religious Education

Welcome!
Our 3rd through 6th grade program is a time to continue learning and growing in their faith, making friends and working together.  Students gather early (some right after school) to socialize, snack, and play.

The 3rd through 6th grade program uses a rotation curriculum so we are all learning the same things at different age levels, then rotate each year through learning about the Mass, the Old Testament, the New Testament and Virtues.  This year we will dive deep into learning about the Mass; exploring together the prayers, learning how to prepare for Mass to get the most out of it, and what to focus on during each moment of the Mass.

We begin our gathering all together in prayer then introduce our topic of the week; then we divide into groups for activities and discussion.  This is a time for questions and exploring how we live out our faith. We then divide into groups for active learning and age-based discussion for the remainder of our time together.

We also have 2 special projects that we work on together over many weeks; our Christmas Pageant and Stations of the Cross.  These are events that we present to families as prayerful presentations.

  • The Christmas Pageant involves every student in ways they feel best suits them, some act with a variety of number of lines, some are on set design, musicians, dancers, etc. The Christmas pageant is about learning and understanding the story of Jesus birth but also about learning to work together, be creative and see how their unique gifts enrich our parishes.
  • The Stations of the Cross are a time to reflect on how the Stations of the Cross, while historical, are also invitations from God to see Him in our daily life and to see Christ in those around us.  We prayerfully study the stations of the Cross as Christ experienced them then write our own reflections as we connect with the emotions of those involved, for example "We are compassionate like Veronica when we sit with a friend who is struggling".  The students work together in small groups to write, edit and produce each station.  We dramatize the stations for families and present after Easter.
