Advent Adoration

Beginning on December 2nd we are starting a new prayer project at Saint Rose Church open to all parishioners from both parishes. We will have overnight Eucharistic Adoration on 4 consecutive Thursday Evenings and continuing overnight into Friday Mornings from Dec. 2 – 23.

Here is what it is and how it works:

We know that at each Mass the bread and wine is transformed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and God, during the consecration at the Altar. Jesus becomes really and truly present under the appearance of bread and wine. Eucharistic Adoration is a special form of prayer where we place the Consecrated Host (the Eucharist - Holy Communion), consecrated at Mass, on the Altar for people to come into the church and be with Jesus. The Eucharist is Jesus, so whenever we come into the church, and the Eucharist is present, Jesus is truly and really present.

For Eucharistic Adoration, we use a special sacred vessel called a Monstrance. It is usually shaped like a Cross, and always has a glass circle at the center where we place the Consecrated Host. The Eucharist (Consecrated Host) is “exposed” in the monstrance so everyone who comes into the church can see Jesus, who is truly present in the Eucharist. We call the time of Eucharistic Adoration when the Host is exposed in the monstrance, on the Altar, Exposition.

Our new prayer project we are starting this Advent (December 2/3) is simple.

We are having Eucharistic Adoration (Exposition) from Thursday evenings at 6:00pm until Friday at 12:00Noon. During that time the church will be available for people to enter and adore Jesus in the Eucharist, to pray personally and to just be with Jesus. (We will take a break from 9:00-9:30 for the celebration of Mass.)

We are looking for people to sign up for a particular hour during that time period. We need to have at least one person in the Church at all times of Exposition. For those who sign up between 9:00pm and 6:00am we will give you a key code to access the church and the building will remain locked to those without the special key code, for security.

Would you like to participate? I guarantee you that if you do it, you will experience a lot of graces in your life. Time spent with Jesus is never time wasted. The best way to receive from God is first to give. Consider making a sacrifice and giving some time to God by going to Eucharistic Adoration and see how God gives you so much back.

Make a commitment and see what God does.
