Update from Chris

Dear Families,

As the academic year comes to a close, I want to share with you how the Holy Spirit has been moving in my life, and what that means for Elevate. Throughout this year, in Alpha, at Life Nights, and in Confirmation prep, we’ve spent a lot of time talking about the Holy Spirit, and about missionary discipleship. We’ve talked about vocation and how God calls each one of us to serve Him according to our gifts and abilities, and how Jesus often calls us to drop everything and follow him. (Matthew 4:19) He has called me to do just that.

This fall, I will begin serving as a college missionary with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS). I do not yet know where I will be sent, but it could be to one of over 150 universities in the United States. What I do know is that I will have an amazing opportunity to share God’s love and His word with plenty of young men and women who need Him now more than ever. I will continue on at the parishes for a few more weeks, as my last day will be Thursday, May 21.

This decision was not easy, and took many months of spiritual direction, vocational discernment, and personal prayer. Even still, it is hard for me to leave what has truly been the most welcoming community I could have possibly imagined at both St. Agnes and St. Rose of Lima. I will be giving God control over where I live, through the assignment given to me by FOCUS, and my wages will be entirely dependent upon anyone He calls to support my mission through donation. I’m leaving behind lots of security—family, income, and home—but I trust that He will provide and that He will do amazing things through me.

The work I’ve had the opportunity to do with all of you has been such a blessing that’s brought so many unforeseen blessings into my own faith life as well. While there have definitely been days I wonder if anything I’ve said sticks, and how many “God is Great’s is too many to make sure everyone hears at least one key point from the night, it has been such a powerful witness to see the growth and devotion to prayer in so many of the teens I’ve been able to work with. The Holy Spirit is doing amazing things here. I’ve learned to let go and trust Him more, to stop and listen to God before I teach, and that everyone has a place in their heart for Jesus, but no two people have that spot filled in the same way. I’ve also grown in my own faith and prayer life in ways I never would have imagined thanks to your prayer, support, and community. But the most important thing I’ve gained from my time at St. Agnes and St. Rose is the relationships I’ve built with all of you. I hope that we can continue to stay in touch, and to hear of the many successes that come in your life! To the teens: know that I am looking forward to hearing about the great ways God will work through you in the years to come.

While I don’t have much more information about my assignment with FOCUS at this time, I will know more by the end of May or early June. If you would like to stay in touch, learn more about my future endeavors, or support the mission I am embarking on either through prayer or support, you can sign up for my email list here: https://bit.ly/focuscml

I have included my personal contact information at the bottom of this email as well. I hope that I can meet with many of you to say, “see you later,” before I go off to my assignment in July, and I hope I see many of you in college if we end up at the same school. I know that if God is truly calling me to serve with FOCUS, then He is calling someone else here to serve you even greater than I could. Until they answer His call, Father Dan will be shepherding you as always, and Joe Jasinski and Mary Guinee will continue to lead Zoom Bible Studies and Sunday Hangouts this summer. You are in great hands!

Never stop listening to His voice, and never be afraid to say yes.

God bless,

Chris Livernois
