Child Information

Child

If your child has not been baptized and they are 7 years of age or older, they will need to enter RCIC (The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children). This means they will enter a class with other children preparing to receive Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation; and they will receive all three sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Be sure to select RCIC as your child's class time above. For more information, please call the parish office at 978-774-1958.

Class Options:

  • PreK, Kindergarten, Grade 1, & Grade 2 (First Reconciliation and First Communion Preparation):
    • St. Rose, Topsfield: Sundays, 8:30-10:30 AM (includes 9:30 Mass)
    • St. Agnes, Middleton: Sundays, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM (includes 11:00 Mass)
Parents are required to attend Mass with their children. Parents should pick up their children in the church hall 5 minutes before the start of Mass and walk their kids into Mass. Families must sign in in the back of the church after Mass to receive credit for attending Mass. If your family cannot attend Mass immediately following class, your family can sign in at any other Mass time. Masses after classes are our family Mass times. During those Masses, kids go to Pathfinders (Children's Liturgy of the Word), where they hear the readings of the week and a lesson appropriate for them. They return to their families after the readings and homily. This allows parents to listen to the readings and homily for themselves, without the distraction of their kids!

  • Homeschooling: Select this option and resources will be available for you in late September or early October.
    • Homeschooling is not permitted for First Communion or Confirmation preparation. In extraordinary circumstances, families may be permitted to homeschool for sacramental prep years. If your family has an extraordinary circumstance which inhibits your child's ability to attend in-person Sunday classes, please email Amy Kostak at [email protected] to set up a meeting with Amy and/or a priest to discuss your options. Sports and other extracurricular activities do not constitute "extraordinary circumstances." Homeschooling for sacramental prep requires weekly Mass attendance and monthly meetings with the coordinator of your child's program, in addition to a homeschooling curriculum for your family to complete together.
  • RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children)
    • If your child is over the age of 7 and has not been baptized, they must join the RCIC classes to prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation.
